Mangalore has been a business hub in southern Canara since many years for trading of spices, areca nut and other hill products. It had trade link with islands and islets of the subcontinent. The Padnaits engaged and earned their living by cart-pulling and other labor jobs under Moopans (the group leaders) who were having direct contact with ‘Pandikashala’ owners in spice market. The laborers were provided with boarding and lodging called ‘Jaga’ by their Moopans. They are nominees of Dars Committee from Mangalore. Also Erambram Sulaiman Haji Moopen. from Padne.
